Design project management: schedule, budget and decisions under control
Design project management gives the client a single point of contact who keeps the schedule, budget and the work of all parties under control. ESPLAN's project manager coordinates the architects and engineers, deals with the authorities and keeps the client regularly informed about decisions and open issues. If you also need a lead designer, the same team can take on both roles.

Our project management approach is customized to fit the unique characteristics of each project and the goals of the client.

Book a consultationHow we run a project:
- Start: Together with the client we define the needs, project scope, schedule and budget. We prepare a work plan and identify the risks that could affect the schedule or cost.
- Coordination: The project manager organises the work of architects, engineers, consultants and the client, keeps track of deadlines and makes sure the necessary decisions are taken on time.
- Budget: At the end of each design stage we compare the cost of the solution with the agreed budget and tell the client early if a decision affects it.
- Quality: At the end of each stage we check the design under our ISO 9001 quality management system to make sure it meets the requirements and the brief.
- Risks: We record open issues and risks and agree who will resolve them and by when.
- Reporting: The client receives regular updates on the schedule, decisions taken and open issues.
- Handover: We hand over the design with complete documentation that can be used for both construction and facility management.
The lead designer is responsible for the design as a whole and signs it off. The project manager organises the work: schedule, parties, decisions and communication. At ESPLAN the same team fills both roles.
Yes. The architectural concept often comes from a competition or a firm chosen by the client. In that case we coordinate all engineering disciplines, act as lead designer and deal with the authorities.
The earlier the better. The brief is where cost and schedule can be influenced most. We can also join later, for example during preliminary design or the building permit application.
We agree on the scope and budget frame at the start, check the cost of the design at the end of every stage and make the necessary changes in the design before construction begins.
We agree on regular meetings and a reporting format. The client sees the decision log, open issues and the status of the schedule.
