A school complex designed to feel like home

Kaagvere Special School, officially known as the Maarjamaa Education College, is a school for students with special needs that has been transformed through the creation of a spacious, modern, and aesthetically designed campus.

The entire school complex consists of a multi-purpose main building, a family-style house, and ten group homes, all interconnected by a versatile and thoughtfully designed courtyard, forming a cohesive and welcoming environment. The aim was to make the school feel as cozy and homelike as possible.

To soften the appearance of the concrete buildings, colors were chosen to harmonize with the natural surroundings. In selecting structural materials and solutions, the focus was on energy efficiency as well as the need for rapid construction due to the scale of the development.

As a result, 95% of all structures were built using precast reinforced concrete elements, enabling both speed and durability in the construction process.
