Hiiumaa Nature and Experience Centre

The client’s goal was to create a vibrant activity centre on Hiiumaa to complement the island’s permanent natural and cultural attractions. Alongside offering exhibition areas and opportunities for recreation, the project posed a unique challenge: how to reflect a wealth of diverse ideas within a single building that not only functions with a carefully considered spatial layout but also stands out architecturally—visible even from across the sea.

The building is centred around a tower, with each floor dedicated to a different theme, forming an interactive exhibition journey. Moving upward through the levels, visitors embark on a symbolic voyage through Hiiumaa, discovering the island’s rich traditions, unique character, and hidden charms.

To make the centre even more dynamic and memorable, the design includes Estonia’s tallest indoor climbing wall, a cozy café, and of course, a bowling alley—creating a destination where learning, leisure, and adventure come together under one striking roof.
